Historian Lottie Albright is compiling family stories of the residents of Carleton County and working as the campaign manager for Brian Hadley's senatorial campaign. But when Hadley's aunt is found murdered, suspicion soon casts a long on his potential political career. Believing that her work in historical investigation will help in finding clues to the identity of the killer, Lottie asks the local sheriff to deputize her.
