With her business partner Jimmy Siswan moving for a new wife and job, private investigator Lena Jones struggles to keep it together. Taking on a job doing security for Warren Quinn, director of a documentary being shot at Papago Park about the German POW camp and the "great escape" of Christmas Eve, 1944, Lena soon finds herself in the middle of new case involving the murder of one surviving escapee, Kapitan zur Zee Erik Ernst. Ernst's Ethiopian caregiver begs Lena to clear his name, and she discovers connections between Ernst's murder and a decades old murder of a family.
