Previously, Lozen lived in a world of the Ones and everyone else. The Ones were technologically augmented humans. Everyone else served them. Then a mysterious cloud passed through the world making technology useless, plunging the world back to the steam age. The Ones had genetically engineered and mutated pets, who now are out of control and have turned on the Ones and humans alike. Lozen is forced to hunt these monsters when the Ones kidnap her family--but it won't be long before Lozen comes into her destiny, and becomes a hero.
