In the summer of 1880, Inez Stannert, one of the partners in the Silver Queen Saloon in Leadville, Colorado, goes to reunite with her son who is currently being cared for by her sister. While on the trip there, fellow stagecoach passenger Edward Pace suddenly grows faint, takes some mysterious medicine, and dies. Pace's widow asks Inez to investigate, and she soon uncovers the dark side of spa tourism along with a so-called cure for tuberculosis. To complicate matters further, Inez's husband Mark reappears after an unexplained year-long absence.
