Summary:
In 1903, wealthy Michael Masterson meets and falls in love with a working-class girl named Addie Strongwood. But when Michael is shot dead, Addie goes on trial for first-degree murder. She claims she killed him in self-defense, so her attorney calls on the help of part-time investigator Shadwell Rafferty to uncover the truth.
