"The Somali people believe in many superstitious things that have no basis in science, religion, or even commonsense. The words and phrases that are used to communicate this matter are wide and varied between communities to the extent that it is difficult to explain the meaning of these terms (Bacaw, Dhabato, Qumayo, Sixirow, Jinnoole, Cirib-ku-dable, daba-ku-tinle, iwim). Like anywhere else, this irrational association of a person or an object with good or bad luck runs through communities for generations. For instance, in the inter-Riverine regions of Somalia, many fake experts claim they can directly communicate with the Crocodiles and thus can translate their language. While many others claim they can talk to the devils and heal many people run over by the devils. A muslim should not believe that something not decreed by Allah could bring harm or benefit to anyone and, therefore, should not be superstitious.
